What is Qi Gong?
According to the Qigong Association, Qigong can be described as a mind-body-spirit practice that improves one's mental and physical health by integrating posture, movement, breathing technique, self-massage, sound, and focused intent.
Qigong opens the flow of energy in meridians used in acupuncture and Chinese medicine. Physically, slow gentle qi gong movements warm tendons, ligaments, and muscles; tonify vital organs and connective tissue; and promote circulation of body fluids (blood, synovial, lymph).
Qi Gong has also been shown to improve immunity. The National Institute of Health had published a study by the American Journal of Chinese Medicine indicates that a single Qigong intervention can increase the monocyte and lymphocyte numbers.
Monocyte: Monocytes are a type of white blood cell that fight certain infections and help other white blood cells remove dead or damaged tissues, destroy cancer cells, and regulate immunity against foreign substances.
Lymphocyte: Lymphocytes are a type of white blood cell that becomes B and T cells in the body.B lymphocytes and T lymphocytes work together to fight infection.
